How I Understand Exactly What My Clients Want
One of the questions I get asked all the time as an interior designer is, “How do you know what I’ll like?”
The short answer? I listen and I look closely.
Because great design isn’t just about trends or aesthetics. It’s about you—your lifestyle, your routines, your mood board saves, your love of hosting, your aversion to clutter. Every client is different, and every home has its own story to tell. My job at Room Service is to bring that story to life in a way that feels effortless, functional, and completely personal.
Here’s a peek into how I get there:
📝 1. The Pre-Design Questionnaire
Before we even lift a paintbrush, I ask the big questions—about your daily habits, how you want to feel in your space, what your dream Saturday at home looks like, and everything in between.
📌 2. Visual Inspiration & Pinterest Boards
Not sure how to describe your style? No problem. The images you’re drawn to are packed with clues—colour palettes, materials, moods. I love a deep dive into your Pinterest boards to get a clear visual starting point.
👂 3. Active Listening
Some of the most important details come out in conversation. Whether you mention needing a quiet reading corner or that your kitchen is your social hub—I’m taking notes (literally).
🛎 4. Intuition & Experience
With years of experience and a sixth sense for design, I’ve learned how to read between the lines. Even if you can’t articulate exactly what you want, I can usually see the thread and run with it.
📐 5. Collaboration & Refinement
Interior design isn’t a one-way street. I share concepts, welcome your feedback, and fine-tune everything until it feels just right for you.
At the end of the day, my job as an interior designer isn’t to impose a style - it’s to help you define yours. One that feels beautiful, functional, and uniquely yours.
